Interesting Facts I Learned \while doing this Project

1. Elvis Presley was in the army.

7. Elvis Presley gave all of the money he made from being in the army to charities.
8. Elvis Presley bought T.V.'s for all of the soldiers in his base.
9. Erwin Rommel was a kind man despite killing so many people.
10. Erwin Rommel was part of the plot to kill Adolph Hitler.

*This fact was not mentioned in my story or previous posts. I found this out while reading a wikipedia article but it did not relate to my story so I didn't use it.

1. My book will take place during the 1950's. That is around the time when Elvis Presley and Colin Powell were in the Army together. My first image shows what the clothing was like in the 1950's. I thought it would be important to show how the people dressed during that time period. The second image shows a Ford Prefect at a car show. This is probably what all the cars looked like during the 1950's. The next picture is of a Navy Aircraft in the 1950's. Since my book is about war I thought it would be appropriate to include an image of an Aircraft. The fourth image is a navy ship from 1965. Again I added this photo because I wanted to show what war ships were like back then. My fifth and final picture is of a New Orleans street in the 1950's. I chose this picture because I wanted to show what a city would look like around the time that my book takes place.

Mood

My book will have an exciting and suspenseful mood. The first part will be about Elvis Presley and Colin Powell's troop fighting in the Tabernas Desert against the forces of Erwin Rommel. They are out-numbered and Erwin Rommel's forces will beat them. Presley and Powell will be the only survivors and when Rommel finds this out he will try to track them down with a small group of soldiers. The mood will be exciting when they are in battle. The mood will turn to suspense when they are trying to hide from Rommel and his group of soldiers in the Desert. The climax will be when Rommel's group finds Elvis Presley and Colin Powell and the two will have to fight Rommel's whole group, once again out-numbered.

Geography

My story will take place in the Tabernas Desert. The Tabernas Desert is located in Spain in the province of Almeria. The Tabernas Desert's area is 110 square miles and it is located 20 miles North of Barcelona, the Capitol of Spain. The Tabernas Desert is placed between the Sierra de los Filabres to the north and the Sierra de Alhamilla to the south-southeast and that keeps the desert away from humid winds from the Mediterranean Sea. The Tabernas Desert gets only 24 cm of rain each year. It is located in an area with very little rainfall known as the Levante.
The Tabernas Desert has an average temperature of 18 degrees Celcius and it gets 3000 hours of sun exposure per year. When it rains in the Tabernas Desert it rains extremely hard and the ground can't hold it in so it starts to erode. The animals in the Tabernas Desert are very scarce. The birds that live in the Tabernas Desert include the following: Swifts, Jackdaws, Pin-tailed Sandgrouses, Blue Rock Thrushes, Stone Curlews, Trumpeter Finches and Crested Larks. Hedgehogs also live in the Tabernas Desert. My main character and Elvis Presley will get stranded in the Tabernas Desert while they were in the field of battle. They were fighting against Erwin Rommel's forces in the desert and Erwin Rommel was known for his expertise in desert warfare. That will be a factor in my story.

Erwin Rommel

Erwin Rommel was a Germal General who lived from November 15th, 1891 to October 14th, 1944. His full name is Erwin Johannes Eugene Rommel and he is nicknamed Desert Fox. He was known for his skill and knowledge in desert warfare. He was a very polite and kind General compared to other Nazi Generals. When he captured soldiers in Africa, he treated them kindly compared to what you would expect a Prisoner of War to be treated and when he was told to kill all Jewish soldiers and civilians he refused the order. While he was commanding the defence of Occupied France he was thought to be involved in the July 20th plot of 1944 to kill Adolf Hitler. When he found out about this he comitted suicide.

Elvis Presley, Musisicain and one-time soldier, was born Janruary 8th, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. His parents were Vernon and Gladys Presley. On March 24, 1958 he was put into the army as a private and he did basic training at Fort Wook, Texas. He was posted to Friedberg, Germany in the Third Armored Division. He was in Germany from October 1st, 1958 to March 2nd, 1960. Whie Elvis was in the army, many soldiers said he was, despite his fame, a very good soldier. He gave his pay from the army to charity and bought television sets for soldiers at his current base. Also while in the army, Elvis learned karate, which he began to study seriously. He even used karate in one of his concerts.

Colin Powell

Colin Powell was born on April 5th, 1937 in Harlem, New York, and raised in South Bronx, New York. His parents were Luther Theophilus Powell and Maud Arial McKoy who were from Jamaica. He also has Irish and Scottish backrounds. His first experience in the army was as a member of the "Pershing Rifles" which was a military drill team organization for college-level students, and was founded John J. Pershing in 1894. In 1978, Colin Powell was promoted to second leautenant. He was a professional soldier for 35 years and eventually became a General. While serving in the Third Armored Division as a Leiutenant in Germany he met Famous Musician Elvis Presly who was also serving in that division.
